A.F.I. Archivio Fotografico Italiano 2

Busto Arsizio / Castellanza VA

Daniele Mazzoleni

The Italian Photographic Archive since 2006, the year of its founding, has dedicated itself with constant commitment to the enhancement and dissemination of photography, acquiring funds, protecting collections destined to dissolve, planning and developing research aimed at increasing the visual heritage, both historical and contemporary, with the aim of qualitatively enriching its collection.
Subjects are wide-ranging: from reportage to journalism, from geographic photography to Italian territory, from urban spaces to architecture, from portraits to labor, research and art photography, with a focus on historical and recent past images. Many projects translated into traveling exhibitions and valuable books, presented at the European level. Afi collaborates with public and private institutions, archives nationwide, schools and institutes, devising cognitive, practical and educational paths, examining regulations on visual heritage management, preservation and cataloguing, encouraging collecting, participating in conferences and educational plans at various schools. The launching of a publishing series, which has now reached more than 40 published volumes, has enabled Afi to put itself forward even outside national borders, with flattering acclaim, promoting Italian photography and the authors represented in international contexts and in contexts reserved for qualified operators and connoisseurs of photography and art. Afi is also a Fine Art Printing Workshop, which is appreciated by many artists. Noteworthy are the events organized annually. Among the most notable are the European Photography Festival, the Archivi Svelati Review, and projects to document and disseminate the environmental, landscape, artistic and architectural heritage of Lombardy and the peninsula. Afi boasts collaborations at the European level, participating for many years in the RIPs of Arles, in collaboration with the French municipality, in Grenoble proposing Italian photography and in Paris, with its own booth, as part of FOTOFEVER at the Carrousel du Louvre for several years.

Concept for the fair

Since 2006, the Italian Photographic Archive has been vividly dedicated to the enhancement, preservation and dissemination of art photography, planning and developing research aimed at increasing the visual, historical and contemporary heritage, with the aim of qualitatively enriching its collection, which consists of tens of thousands of images in the various fields of expression. It participates in fairs and festivals abroad representing Italian photography and its authors, with a consulting activity for collectors, architects and designers. “Among the Lost People” is an installation dedicated to the works of Daniele Mazzoleni, which reconstructs a journey into the memory of characters, places and events that have left their mark on our history.
